Alcoholism

anew-alcoholism

Alcohol being a legal and socially acceptable drug is elusively crafty in many ways and is not usually considered dangerous by those who consume it for a long period of time, even though they may have a history of misuse or trouble associated with it. Excessive abuse of alcohol leads to a high tolerance and physical dependence. Withdrawal from alcohol, unlike other drugs with the exceptions of a few, can cause death. Withdrawal syndrome can include seizures and delirium tremors. Insomnia is also a common protracted withdrawal symptom. Chronic use of alcohol leads to changes in gabaergic (neuro-transmitting) system, which causes neurochemical changes that occur during alcohol withdrawal. Some of the physical damage that can occur from excessive alcohol abuse includes; ulcers, pancreatitis, swollen liver, gastrointestinal tract complications, loss of appetite, restlessness, irritability and being ill at ease. Alcohol can affect an individual mentally, physically, and emotionally which can ultimately lead to an untimely death, leaving families with such futility and devastation that cause long term pain and suffering for all. Anyone attempting to stop drinking alcohol or detox themselves without the type of medical care that Anew Rehab Services offers must realize, this can be fatal. In treating alcoholism, our program encompasses both the short-term as well as long-term withdrawal. Acutely, medication may be needed to prevent the Delirium tremens and supplement any nutritional or vitamin deficiency that may be present. Longer term and directly pertaining to withdrawal other medications are sometimes used that both prevent recurrence of withdrawal and prevent relapse. There is a world of ignorance surrounding the illness of alcoholism and much has been written pro and con, but the only real relief anyone gets from some of the symptoms, such as cravings and abnormal reactions related to consuming alcohol, come from entire abstinence. However there are other aspects to the disease of alcoholism than just the physical. If alcoholism were limited to problems associated to drinking, then once the alcoholic is separated from alcohol there would be no further need for treatment. Oddly enough however the strange reality is, that most alcoholics for obscure reasons seem to have lost the power of choice when it comes to alcohol, and often give into the desire for the affect produced long after the past trouble has gone and it has been some time since the last drink. Therefore an aspect of the problem must be centered in the mind of an alcoholic as well as their body. Then we have types who suffer from grave emotional issues who turn to alcohol for relief and could seemingly no more do without their alcohol than they could air itself. This description, though a rough identification, is by no means a thorough comprehensive picture because behavior patterns do vary. But anyone who has had dealings with someone dependent upon alcohol who reads this will understand. We see alcoholism as a three fold illness of the mind, body and emotions or spiritual malady if you will, where there seems to be a direct lack of personal will power when it comes to alcohol, for those unable to stop or stay stopped. In order for an individual with alcoholic tendencies to recover and remain that way there must be a surrender of a sort rather than just a temporary compliance. Along with a willingness to remain humble enough to admit that they will never again regain control, which means the question must become "do I want to quit drinking liquor for good and all"? and there can be no reservations nor lurking notions that they will beat the game, of any kind. The person must also be willing to fearlessly do the internal therapeutic work on themselves necessary to face and be rid of the things within that cause him/her to either need the kind of relief, at certain times, that they believe can only come from substances such as alcohol, or turn to using them as an escape from a reality that they cannot tolerate. This is repeated over and over. So far upon the total problem as a whole the most effective method of long term to permenant recovery seems to be found in individuals who continue to attend various 12 step support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, which Anew Rehab Services absolutely cooperates with, believes in, and uses to help resident's connect with, during treatment and upon successful completion of their alcohol recovery program. Those who have suffered chronic relapse and accept this education and apply this type of therapy to their life, seem to recover and remain that way. Those who do not, seem to have precarious sobriety, if any. Call  800-358-9902 now and end the vicious cycle of alcoholism for good and all.
